Grandma in Hospital

On Wednesday night, my grandma had trouble sleeping due to back pains from installing some storm windows throughout her house. She was unable to sleep that night, and in the morning my grandpa took her to the doctor, who lined her out and gave her some medication to help her get to sleep. Later that day, my grandpa was unable to wake her up, because she was sleeping so heavily. He began to worry, and finally when me grandma came to, she said to call for an ambulance. If you knew my grandma, you'd know that something was very wrong for her to ask for an ambulance. I don't think she's ever been hospitalized before. To continue, my cousin Emily who is a nurse at The Women's Hospital rode in the ambulance with her. Originally, they were on their way to the Henderson hospital from Dixon, Ky (40 minute drive, even at 65 mph). Emily insisted that they continue past the hospital and go directly to Deaconess (my grandma agreed). As the family waited and prepared for the bad news, we finally got it. She had an aortic aneurism the size of a football in her abdomen. The doctor said it was the largest he had ever seen. They have removed the damaged arterial tissue and replaced it with a synthetic. Her entire blood supply has been replaced more than once over due to the low numbers of coagulants and hemoglobin in her body. Last night her stomach was so swollen that they needed to reopen the incision to relieve the pressure on her organs and lungs, so that they would still function properly. I have not heard any word since, but I'll be making a return visit today after my Philosophy class lets out at 11:30am.

If you came here looking for good news, my slot machine came on Wednesday.
