I'm really starting to grow fond of my students. There are still some minor annoyances, but for the most part, everyone is starting to become a small part of my life in strange ways. The Visual Basic kids are great, and even the keyboarding students are doing better. I guess now that the initial shock of getting a new teacher is over, they're starting to calm down, because it's obvious that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I know almost all 150 students' first and last names now, and I even remember little things about them. It's kind of cool to see students that remind me of myself in high school. For example, during lunch, there is kind of a misfit table where some skater/punk guys sit (Dead Milkmen and Misfits shirts) and their goofiness just reminds me of how much I miss my old eccentric circle of friends. I feel old because I see many things that are silly, but they didn't seem silly when I was in high school. I also still feel young, because when students ask me about programming/games/etc, I know what they're talking about, and they seem to like that. It's also nice to have students tell me that my class is their favorite, especially the one guy who seems like he might be having trouble with a lot of his other classes. Overall, I think this is a wonderful experience, and although it's only temporary, I'm learning to cherish every moment of it. I really want to help these students, and I hope they realize my sincere personal dedication to their educations. I even have some of the football players in the VB class asking me if I'll come watch their games, I think one of these times I'll do just that.
